What You'll Get
Chapman University presents acclaimed playwright Sarah Ruhl's inventive retelling of the Orpheus myth at Waltmar Theatre. In the original Greek myth, Orpheus' bride Eurydice tragically dies on their wedding day. He's able to retrieve her from the Underworld, with the condition that he must not look back at her until they reach the surface. He fails this condition at the last minute and she's lost forever. Ruhl's version -- both funny and heartbreaking -- tells the story from Eurydice's perspective, taking the myth in intriguing new directions as well as exploring the relationship between Eurydice and the beloved father she's reunited with in the Underworld. With contemporary characters and ingenious plot twists, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story.
