Probably the world's most popular opera, and brimming with lust, jealousy, drama, and even death, Georges Bizet's Carmen revolves around a beautiful but hot-tempered Spanish gypsy girl who seduces a young corporal named Don José. The naive young man gives up everything for the femme fatale -- he leaves his sweetheart, rebels against his superiors and joins a gang of smugglers. But when Carmen tires of him and moves on to a bullfighter, Don José is driven to exact violent revenge. The famed score from the French composer features instantly recognizable music like Carmen's Habanera, "The Toreador Song" and more. This fully staged production from Pacific Lyric Association features passionate flamenco dancing, two top singers from the San Diego Opera, a professional chorus from the San Diego Master Chorale and a full orchestra. Savor it at California Center for the Arts in Escondido.
