Fingerstyle guitar -- a technique in which several strings are plucked/played at the same time, rather than strummed -- results in a fuller, richer sound from the amazing range of bass, harmony, melody and even percussion parts it produces. Now, a trio of the world's best take the stage together for the first time at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. Tim Sparks is a musical innovator and genre-hopper, whose skilled playing has won awards, as has Phil Heywood's. Heywood's groove leans more towards country blues and roots while the eclectic Dean Magraw is an in-demand sideman who's played on more than 200 recordings, and also leads his own experimental jam band, called Eight Head. Come hang out before the show at a social hour that features an included hors d'oeuvres buffet and a cash bar with drinks for purchase.
There’s a pre-concert talk at 7:15pm for Musical Notes by Kevin Barnes, host of String Theory, KBEM Radio.
This concert is not recommended for children younger than age 10.
