Andrew Lloyd Weber's first-ever publicly performed musical, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, is still one of his biggest crowd-pleasers, a colorful twist on the Old Testament tale of Joseph -- a boy blessed with prophetic dreams whose father gives him a dazzling, multi-hued cloak. Green with envy over the gift, Joseph's brothers sell him into slavery, and Joseph eventually ends up in Egypt, where he manages to rescue the country from famine, with a little help from Pharaoh (hilariously portrayed as Vegas-era Elvis). A multiple Tony nominee when it first appeared on Broadway, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat boasts a mix of musical styles, ranging from country and pop to rock and even calypso. Now a talented young cast from CMT San Jose kicks off its 48th season with this rainbow roller coaster of a musical at Montgomery Theater.
Running time is approximately two hours.
