The Irvine Barclay Theatre hosts an encore broadcast screening of National Theatre Live's 2013 production of Shakespeare's political thriller Coriolanus, starring Tom Hiddleston. Known for playing evil mastermind Loki in the The Avengers and the Thor films, Hiddleston turns his talents to the stage to play a man who becomes both a hero and a villain. Originally performed at London's Donmar Warehouse, this production finds him taking on the titular character, Rome's greatest warrior, whose pride spurs him to victory in battle. But he alienates the common people at home when his victories win him a powerful political office. Raised to be a hero rather than a politician, Coriolanus refuses to compromise, even to save his own life. Exiled from his country, the warrior returns to what he knows best, vowing to take bloody revenge on the people who rejected him. This screening was taped for broadcast as part of NTL, the series that brings the best of British theater to movie screens worldwide.
