A longtime tradition that draws appreciative audiences from around the world, the San Diego Jazz Festival is a music lover's dream, with swinging sounds to be heard, danced to and enjoyed around every corner throughout Thanksgiving weekend. Famed New York reedman Dan Levinson is scheduled to join the excitement this year, as more than 30 bands and artists are scheduled to play in seven different rooms, with styles ranging from traditional jazz, dixieland and ragtime to swing and rockabilly. The opening night concert-dance showcases San Diego's own High Society Jazz Band and Sue Palmer & her Motel Swing Orchestra. Other highlights include the Saturday Swing Extravaganza with a "battle of the bands," New Orleans-style Second Line parades, a Sunday morning hymn-along, a swing dance contest and classes at a variety of levels, opportunities for amateurs to jam, and special sets dedicated to Louis Armstrong, Tin Pan Alley and much more.
