About Canadian Tulip Festival
1. What services does your business offer and what makes your business standout from the competition?
The Canadian Tulip Festival is one of the biggest events of its kind in the world. This flagship festival showcases the Capitals official flower as a symbol of international friendship by hosting floral exhibits and artistic installations, culinary experiences, interactive family programming, breathtaking fireworks set to music, vintage military displays, guided tours and of course, millions of tulips in bloom for 11 days in May.
2. What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
A princess, whose royal family has been displaced by war, is born in Canada. In gratitude, a gift of Dutch tulips makes its way across the ocean, and the legacy of the Canadian Tulip Festival is created, celebrating international friendship through the symbol of the tulip. Formally founded by The Ottawa Board of Trade in 1953, the Festival is further inspired by renowned photographer Malak Karsh, whose iconic photos of Ottawas tulip beds brings international fame to the city.
3. What do you love most about your job?
At 65 years and counting, the Canadian Tulip Festival continues to grow and expand its theme of international friendship and peace through its iconic symbol the tulip. Connecting people and countries throughout the world through its present 65th anniversary theme: One Tulip One Canada, the Festival ensures its floral legacy, activities, exhibits and experiences will continue to attract all who value these universal principles set within the spectacular beauty of natures flourishing tulip gardens.
4. What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer?
The Canadian Tulip Festival has been creating unforgettable memories for visitors since 1953. Having a couple create a Tulip quilt in memory of having met at the Festival or having a child dazzled by the fairytale princesses saying hi or hearing the oohs and ahhs of spectators taking in the spectacular Fireworks at Lansdowne Park are a few of many special moments this iconic event has witnessed with many more to come this May 12th 22nd.
