Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre
Founded as a result of Canmore's 1983 centennial celebration, The Centennial Museum Society of Canmore's original display of photographs and artefacts in an old, local school has flourished into the exhibits of the Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre. Permanent and temporary collections educate community members and tourists on Canmore's human and geological heritage by showcasing the area's early history, involvement in the 1988 Olympic games, and the formation of natural wonders such as the Rockies and the Devonian reef. The society also remains dedicated to community preservation, overseeing such projects as the restoration and current operations of the 1893 North West Mounted Police Barracks, western Canada's oldest purpose-built barracks. Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre annually bestows members with invitations to open houses and exhibits, retail discounts, and discounted lift tickets at Sunshine Village on woolly mammoth teeth gathered at geologic digs.
