Q:

Based upon the research I have done the $850 price includes the Venus trays to take home nad continue treatment. Does the groupon include this? Also your website does not mention this as a procedure you offer. I see the Zoom and Rembrandt whitening, is this a new procedure you have just started using?

Hi Chelsea! I think that you called the office earlier, but I'll go ahead and answer here in case others have the same question. We do include a take home kit as a "thank you" gift when patients pay the full $850- we have the financial leeway to do that at that cost. It's not built into the price of the in-office service, it's just a bonus we provide at our discretion. Since the percentage of the $99 that comes to us doesn't begin to cover our costs, we just can't offer that as well. HOWEVER! We'd be happy to sell you a take home kit at our cost if you do purchase the Groupon. Yes, we started using this product this Summer. It can be a disappointment for patients when they experience so much sensitivity that they can't finish the treatment. This happens. Venus is as powerful in terms of whitening, but is designed to cause as little sensitivity as possible. It's a remarkable product, and we really need to update our site to say so!

Q:

My son will be getting his braces off soon. He has some staining. Will the process even out the staining? Also, is this a one time office visit or 3 to 4 visits? Thanks.

Maryellen M.  asked on  Nov 25, 2011

A:

Hi Maryellen! Yes, this should help. As I explained to Merle the answer below, there are a number of factors that can influence the effectiveness of any whitening product, but assuming your son has typical yellow staining he should see a noticeable improvement. Venus is painted onto the teeth, as opposed to being put into a tray, so there is a measure of control over where the product goes and can be focused on the areas with the staining. Make sure he has a cleaning first! No, you don't need to come back 4 times. This Groupon is for up to 4 fifteen minute sessions, which take place at one sitting . The product is applied, let sit for 15 minutes, then removed. You have the option to check your results and decide if you'd like to go whiter or stop there between each session. 4 is the maximum number of applications- any more and you begin to run the risk of damaging the enamel so we stop while we're safe. Many people are happy after 2 or 3 of the possible 4, and prefer to just maintain the level they've reached at that point with a take-home whitening product. Thanks!

Also, though whitening is a good and necessary start, there are additional methods that can be employed to ensure the best possible outcome for your son. It really depends upon the nature of the discoloration and the damage that caused the actual discoloration. Either way, you want a color you're happy with first, then if necessary rely on other techniques for evening it out completely.

Q:

approximately how many shades lighter can you expect with this treatment? A friend of mine did treatments that sounded similar but were more often repeated for results. Would just this groupon really show a change?

merle o.  asked on  Nov 25, 2011

A:

Hi! I'd love to tell you that it's guaranteed to whiten your teeth to whatever shade you desire. However, there are so many variables, regardless of the product used, that all I can say for sure is that you will notice a difference. If your teeth are yellowed from coffee, wine, cigarrettes... eating for many years :)... and you're fresh from a cleaning, your results can be dramatic. If your teeth are more of a brown shade, then probably less so, but still improvement. Gray teeth are the most resistant to whitening- this is intrinsic (from the inside of the tooth, rather than surface) staining that's usually caused by antibiotics, chemicals or fever when you're young. Sadly, that type of damage is irreversible at present, so you'll see a brightening but not a return to pre-damage white. Without a really recent (optimally within days) cleaning you can expect your results to be minimized- whitening plaque and tartar is a pretty inefficient way to brighten your smile.

Q:

Write your question hereCan you do this even if you have caps? I have tried tooth whitening years ago and my teeth have been sensitive. Can you deal with sensiive teeth?

Robin S.  asked on  Nov 25, 2011

A:

Hi! The bad news is that, unfortunately, caps don't brighten. Porcelain just doesn't respond- peroxide works on enamel only. The good news is that Venus is far more forgiving in terms of sensitivity than any brand we've tried. Products like Zoom, popular as it is, can cause show-stopping discomfort; sometimes patients need to call it quits mid-treatment. Venus treatments have a desensitizing component that works quite well.
