Cappella Clausura, named in honor of the magnificent music written by cloistered nuns of 17th-century Italy, presents a concert that features the poetic, lyrical madrigals of Barbara Strozzi, who was active in the 1650s, as well as those of Madalena Casulana, credited with publishing the very first printed musical work by a woman in 1568. Led by director Amelia LeClair, this acclaimed performance and recording group is set to be accompanied by Catherine Liddell on the theorbo, lute and guitar at Newton's Eliot Church. Also on the bill are madrigals by "the bad boy of the Italian Renaissance" Carlo Gesualdo and Orlando di Lasso.
