What You'll Get
To make the body produce adrenaline, people usually must juggle soldering irons or trap wild animals underneath wet newspaper. Today's Groupon gives you a more comfortable way to excite your cellular infrastructure: for $99, you get an introductory kiteboarding lesson (a $199 value) at Captain Kirk's in San Pedro. This Groupon is valid for lessons held at the Long Beach location.
A certified Ocean Rodeo Learn to Ride Center, Captain Kirk's provides introductory kiteboard lessons. The three-hour on-land tutorial is led by an IKO or PASA certified instructor and begins by covering best practices for site and gear selection. Detailed knowledge regarding kite inflating and rigging, safety releases, and sign language is imparted via in-ear brain siphon. With the logistical foundation laid, you'll practice launching techniques, harness use, how to slide on your feet, and line wrapping-and-handling on a landlocked board.
Most lessons occur on the weekends, but there is no fixed schedule that has been carved into a nearby park bench. Customers may call Captain Kirk's with a preferred time and, if the ocean permits it, the lesson will be scheduled. On the day of your lesson, meet your instructor and fellow students along the turquoise waters near lifeguard tower number 10, which is neither lifeguard tower number 11 nor lifeguard tower number 9.

About Captain Kirk's
Although he climbed the corporate ladder at a sprinter's pace in his young life, Kirk Robinson understood the only place he belonged was out on the ocean. He was known to his coworkers as a superior business mind⎯that is, when they actually managed to find him at his desk and not at the beach windsurfing. So, after reading The Road Less Traveled and Do What You Love, the Money Will Follow, Kirk found the inspiration to start Captain Kirk's Inc. in 1992. He then quickly gathered a team that also possessed his passion for watersports, including his kiteboarding wife, Kitty, and set up shop.
Today he and his crew show others how to get the most out of the ocean through kiteboarding, windsurfing, and standup paddleboarding lessons. Additionally, Captain Kirk's retail includes all the supplies needed to master those three activities. Completing the trifecta, Kirk also owns CK's Beach Resort in La Ventana, where guests can bask in the beauty of aqua waters, a private beach, and luxurious lodging while experiencing everything from kiteboarding and standup paddleboarding to windsurfing, sportfishing, and scuba.
