Breathing underwater, like eating fireworks, constructing a monument, and getting married, should be attempted only if you're confident you can do it. This Groupon to Captain Rob’s Scuba Diving in Dania gives you all the skills you need to mingle with the mermaids.
Choose from Three Options
- $99 for a Discover Scuba course (a $199 value)
- $199 for a PADI open-water, scuba-certification course (a $549 value).
- $259 for a PADI advanced open-water-diver, scuba-certification course (a $549 value).
During the Discover Scuba course, participants submerge in a pool to become accustomed to the gear, followed by a 30-minute open-water dive with Captain Rob. Alternatively, in the first day of the three-day open-water-diver certification course, students stay in the classroom and in an outdoor pool, modeling scuba gear in a safe and controlled environment. On day two, Captain Rob brings them aboard the Little Bugga, a 27-foot vessel, for two three- to four-hour open-water dives. Day three involves two more open-water dives; certification is granted after participants pass four quizzes and one final exam.
The advanced certification furthers mastery of breathing underwater with five open-water dives in two days. Students plunge to depths of 100 feet during the deep dive and uncover forgotten pet algae during a wreck dive. Other possible dives include a drift, peak-performance buoyancy, navigation, and Captain's choice.
All dive equipment is included in the courses, though students will need to purchase course textbooks.
Captain Rob's Scuba Diving
Rob—a licensed Coast Guard captain and PADI-certified master scuba diver trainer—is affectionately called Captain Rob by his clients. His eponymous company helps the uninitiated to explore underwater with PADI-certification classes that focus on open-water dives in open water. From his 27-foot boat, a Grady White called Little Bugga, the captain launches expeditions beneath the waves. His encyclopedic knowledge of the area's ecology, which includes marine life, shines as he explains it in detail to divers. He also uses his decades of experience to teach new boat owners how to fish or captain their vessel through turbulent waters and car washes.
