What You'll Get
Without jewelry, style-conscious individuals would be forced to glue gems and scraps of precious metal directly to their delicate skin. Experience the eureka moment of the first jewelry maker with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of classes at Caravan Beads in Lakeview.
Caravan has been stringing Chicago bead fans together since the store opened in 1994. The shop includes retail space, as well as a separate classroom in which to develop beads of sweat through a variety of classes. Learn about the nature of stringing materials and which wire gauges are best for the projects at hand. Stop struggling with microscopic findings, and let one of Caravan's highly skilled teachers steady your hands and teach you the proper elfish incantations for closing jump rings. After hours of intensive training in the militant discipline of jewelry craft, participants will be prepared to fight the rampant untamed beads terrorizing the nearby countryside. Leave the shop with confidence in your step and a pair of wire-wrapped earrings, a wire-linked bracelet, or a beaded necklace clutched in your fist.
The shop's bright interior is lined with cheery, citrus-hued walls, while nearly every available surface drips with myriad decorative orbs, from seed beads and Czech glass to Swarovski crystals. Although today's Groupon is not valid for retail purchases, with newly acquired beading skills thrumming through your brainal regions, you may find Caravan is an ideal place to pick up whatever materials you need to further colonialize the untamed empire of jewelry creation. This Groupon may be used toward classes costing more than $30 if you choose to pay the difference.
- We learned an incredible amount in the 3 hours of class …and while I'm not the biggest fan of beaded jewelry, I am completely in love with the bracelet I made. – Megan G., Yelp
- You can make items on the tables at the center of the store, take them home, or sign up for a class if you're just beginning. Some already completed pieces are for sale too, but doesn't that take all the fun out of it? – Christine Z., Insider Pages

About Caravan Beads of Chicago
Throughout nearly two decades of collecting and reselling beads, owner Charlene Steele has gathered more than one million types of baubles including Swarovski crystals, semi-precious stones, and Miyuki seed beads and Delica beads. In addition to a variety of beads and jewelry components from Czech glass buttons to crystal pendants, customers can drape themselves in the shop's finished jewelry. To learn techniques for making their own treasures, patrons can attend beginner to advanced classes, in which knowledgeable instructors teach students how to wire wrap a stone or preserve a small photo or dried flower in a resin pendant. The shop hosts private parties for kids and adults alike.
