What You'll Get
Cupcakes are so popular in America that the top three Internet searches are cupcakes, hunky firemen, and hunky firemen kissing cupcakes. Get web 2.0 with today's Groupon: for $8, you get a half-dozen gourmet cupcakes (a $16 value) at Carytown Cupcakes.
Carytown caters to sweet teeth seeking treats made with premium flavors and fresh ingredients. The boutique bakery built its reputation around a menu of innovative cupcakes, such as zesty pineapple-banana-pecan Hummingbird, baked fresh every day alongside such classics as vanilla, carrot, and red velvet. Inspired by seasons, holidays, and the limited portability of most larger desserts, Carytown also whips up five custom creations each week. Recent novelties have included the chocolate ice cream sundae, filled with chocolate ganache and topped with vanilla buttercream, a maraschino cherry, and sprinkles. Mindful of allergies and dietary preferences, the shop always offers vegan and gluten-free options, such as the strawberries and champagne, a gluten-free strawberry cake filled with strawberry jam and frosted with champagne buttercream.
Patrons can nibble on their artisanal goodies in one of the vintage chairs outfitting Carytown's pink-walled interior or use them as checkers on the geometric black-and-white floor. Window browsers may opt to carry out for a stroll through the neighborhood, Richmond's quaint shopping district. Doors open at 11 a.m. Tuesday–Saturday, but afternoon snackers might want to call ahead as Carytown closes up shop once the cupcakes well runs dry.

About Carytown Cupcakes
Carytown Cupcakes' team of bakers, affectionately known as "Team Buttercream," handcrafts the shop's preservative-free treats from scratch daily. General Manager Jessye Valerie started in the shop five years ago as a prep cook and now oversees daily operations, wedding deliveries, and special events. Her permanent menu of classic cupcakes woos sweet teeth with the familiar, comforting flavors of red velvet, vanilla, and carrot cake. Meanwhile, her seasonal menus rotate weekly to include vegan and gluten-free selections that fit into themes ranging from wine country to candy bars. For those 21 and over, Carytown Cupcakes is now offering beer, wine, and prosecco.
