Horses were once considered man’s best friend, but after the invention of the dog, the horse was rebranded as man’s eccentric, oat-obsessed uncle. Take a journey with the kindest of kinsmen with today's Groupon: for $25, you get guided horseback tour through Audubon Park (a $40 value) from Cascade Stables on East Drive.
At Cascade Stables, experienced staffers aid eager equestrians as they climb aboard beautiful broncos corralled in attractive facilities before heading out on a high-spirited tour. Ready riders meet at Cascade Stables' headquarters to select their stallions for a one-hour guided tour through Audubon Park. Nature's sanctum in the midst of the city, Audubon is steeped in local history. Formerly the activation site of the Civil War's Buffalo Soldiers, today Audubon mostly activates solar-powered roller blades and a love of wildlife for city residents. Audubon Park spreads over 300 acres of green space, where century-old oak trees huddle up with cooling lagoons, trading gossip about 19th century politicians. Tours take place by reservation on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. for up to eight riders per tour.
Though Cascade Stables opened a new facility in 2006, the center’s rich history of horsemanship and horseback riding dates all the way back to 1981. Over the years, the stable’s instructors have been training fledgling riders in various equestrian techniques, helping youngsters achieve dreams that range from serious, such as competing in officially sanctioned contests, to simple, such as grooming a horse so that it may one day appear on the cover of a romance novel.
