What You'll Get

A song so ancient Jesus heard while still in the womb, the Magnificat is the canticle his mother Mary sang while pregnant, marveling at the wonder and mystery of her situation. In the two millennia since, the best composers of every age have sought to put her words -- astonished, grateful and deeply prayerful -- to music of comparable beauty. Now, for its holiday concert, the acclaimed Cascadian Chorale performs some of the finest efforts, including versions by the baroque master Hieronymus Praetorius and modern composer Arvo Pärt. In addition, they will sing three beautiful settings of the "Ave Maria" as well as works by Northwest composers Sheila Bristow, Peter Chamberlain and Reginald Unterseher. Artistic director Gary D. Cannon conducts 35 of the Seattle area's most skilled choral singers in this very special seasonal concert at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
