Before cupcakes, the only vehicle for frosting consumption was the bare hand, and the only place to load frosting onto that vehicle was the neighborhood frosting bucket. Learn to use frosting the evolved way with today's Groupon to Castle of Cakes. Choose between the following options:

  • For $15, you get a cupcake bouquet (a $40 value).
  • For $20, you get a three-hour cupcake-decorating class (a $40 value).

Helmed by sugar-savvy sovereign and former Wilton Method instructor Sonya Washington, Castle of Cakes leads daring dessert designers through the fundamentals of all things frosted and fabulous in cupcake I. Learn how to turn ordinary cupcakes into flowers, ladybugs, or edible Elmos, or let your wildest creative impulses run free and create the cupcake Hall of Presidents of which you’ve always dreamed in cupcake II. After decorating each cakey dainty to their eyeballs' delight, students will return home with nine cupcakes decorated and ready for consumption. Classes are scheduled afternoons and evenings throughout April and May, and all equipment and supplies are included in the price of the class.

For confection cravers more versed in eating than decorating, the cupcake bouquet provides a vibrant array of 10 cake creations in vanilla, chocolate, lemon, red velvet, and pineapple, decorated in a spring floral design and packaged in a long-stem-rose box with a bow. Delight Mother's Day recipients with the delicious bundle or use it to train children who refuse to eat their daily serving of flowers.

Castle of Cakes

Cake artist Sonya Washington has seen a lot in the last 30 years. She left behind a corporate position to pursue her confectionary dream, and even spent nine months homeless while working to save her fledgling sweet shop. But all those trials are behind her, and they’ve paid off.

With educational certificates in cake decoration and pastry design, Sonya and her business have become so successful that she gives away more than 10,000 mini cupcakes annually, either to charity or as samples. She trains new generations of sweets makers with daily classes, which cover topics including baking for couples, advanced cupcake creation, and how to spot counterfeit buttercream frosting that is actually just gold. While waiting to pick up cake pops in gluten-free or sugar-free configurations, patrons press their noses against glass to peer at Sonya’s cakes, which have included some shaped like guitars, cars, and hats.
