For centuries, the only way to see a polar bear and a giraffe on the same day was to ride a saddled giraffe all the way to the Arctic Circle. Witness climatological opposites coexist with today's Groupon to Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo in Thurmont. Choose from the following options:

  • For $50, you get a Lion Level animal adoption and member benefits package (a $100 value).
  • For $125, you get a Pride Level animal adoption and member benefits package (a $250 value).
  • For $250, you get a Savannah Level animal adoption and member benefits package (a $500 value).
  • For $499, you get an Africa Level animal adoption and member benefits package (a $1,000 value).

The Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo’s range of adoption plans enables donors to contribute to a year's worth of care and feeding for an animal of their choice, including African lions, Amazon parrots, and Bengal tigers. Adoptive animal parents receive guest passes that can be used to visit the sun bears, kangaroos, and galapagos tortoises that roam the preserve's 50 acres. A hundred colorful koi frolic in Delaney's Japanese Koi Pond near Asian plants and a recently naturalized waterfall, and the dozen inhabitants of nearby Alligator Bayou glide and snap through a miniature Louisiana swamp accented with spanish moss and Cajun music. One-hour safari rides, led by reanimated 19th-century British explorers, trek through the preserve's heart, where bison, zebra, water buffalo, yaks, and llamas approach the truck to be petted, fed, and photographed.

Adopters also receive a personalized adoption certificate, a color photo and fact sheet about their animal, a one-year subscription to the preserve's newsletter, and an invitation to "Adopt an Animal Day." In addition, zookeepers escort Africa Level sponsors to their animals' exhibits for private introductions and interspecies meet-and-greets. Proceeds from the adoption program also help fund conservation projects aided by Catoctin, such as research on amphibians in Costa Rica and Florida’s capuchin monkey rescue sanctuary.
