We absolutely love Cavatore. The bread is drenched in olive oil and spices and tastes wonderful. The calamari is amazing. There’s live piano on Fridays. Their chicken dishes never disappoint. We will definitely be regulars here.

Best fettuccini we ever had. Loved the piano player as well.

For lunch, enjoy an insalata di pollo alla griglia, a fresh salad topped with grilled chicken, red onions, chopped tomatoes, basil, rosemary, olive oil, and lemon juice ($14); a savory pasta dish like the salmone con teragon, salmon topped with a tarragon sauce and served with broccoli and carrots ($17); or a sautéed Italian sausage specialty, the salsiccia Italiana con verdure with bell peppers, onions, and garlic ($13). Dinner dishes also delight with plenty of classic antipasti plates, homemade zuppe and insalate, pollo, pesce, pasta, and more. Treat your taste buds to a succulent filet of beef sautéed with brown sauce, brandy, and a touch of cream ($28), washed down with a velvety cappuccino ($4.25) and topped with a fluffy mouthful of tiramisu ($6.50).

Cavatore's historic barn confines and eclectic décor of authentic Italian memorabilia, wooden fixtures, and checkered tablecloths set the stage for a one-of-a-kind Italian feast infused with local Texas flair. Stop by any day of the week and satisfy your senses with a meal as exhilarating as a line dance on a gondola.

Reviews

Houston Press named Cavatore Italian Restaurant "Best Family Restaurant" in 2007. Citysearchers give Cavatore four stars, and 81% of Urbanspooners like it:

  • The restaurant is still owned and managed by the Cavatore family, who keep the food and service quality high, paying personal attention to everything that comes out of the kitchen. Cavatore's has a down-home setting, so you can bring the kids, but it also has a few romantic corners to hide in. – Houston Press
  • What makes Cavatore really shine as an all in all STANDOUT experience is not just the food but the ambiance and the staff. I took my parents to Cavatore because I remembered that they had a live pianist. – ihearthouston76, Citysearch
  • This place is all about ambiance. It's great for couples. The staff is friendly, and the Caesar salad alone is worth returning. – Bridget, Urbanspoon

About Cavatore Italian Restaurant

Outside, this 100-year-old barn has all the expected adornments—a windmill, antlers mounted over the awning, a corrugated-metal roof. It's inside where things turn unexpected. Cavatore Italian Restaurant's century-old Italian memorabilia hangs from the rustic siding.

Servers mix caesar salads at tables draped in red-and-white tablecloths and surrounded by chairs with basket-weave backs. This fusion of Italian restaurant and Texas barn may seem an unlikely union, but there's a simple logic to it. When the Cavatore family came to the United States, it came from the pastoral regions of Northern Italy, a rich agriculture area known for its wine, truffles, and herds of wild colanders. Thus, converting the barn to a restaurant made sense, as it both embraced the family's Italian heritage and hearkened back to its countryside roots.
