Detroit '67 turns back the clock to a pivotal time in the Motor City, showing one family's struggles in the days leading up to the one of the deadliest and most destructive riots in U.S. history. Motown music fills the air in the after-hours club that siblings Chelle and Lank run out of their late parents' basement. But times are changing, and Chelle and Lank have different ideas about where the business should go. Tensions mount, and the arrival of a mysterious outsider deepens the conflict -- then chaos erupts throughout the city in what would become known as the 12th Street Riot, which led to more than 40 deaths and 7,200 arrests. The 2014 recipient of the prestigious Kennedy Award for Drama, Dominique Morisseau's critically acclaimed new play "crackles with humor," according to The New York Times, and now Center Stage is bringing it to Towson.
