In 1918, at the end of the Great War, Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg founded the Society for Private Musical Performances to foster new music in Vienna. The crowds were intimate, the performances groundbreaking. Now you can revisit those days when Chamber Music Northwest presents Shaking Up Strauss & Schoenberg at Winningstad Theatre in Portland. You'll hear selections of the Society's greatest hits, including waltzes by Johann Strauss II and Schoenberg's own Chamber Symphony No. 1.
