While working at Sick Kids Hospital, Dr. Alina Kotler was struck with a quirky realization: “Kids are just like chameleons.” Much like the color-morphing reptiles, children instinctively change in response to their surroundings, despite lacking prehensile tails that can finish their homework. With this thought came her resolution to create a space that nurtured kids' natural sense of curiosity and intuition, which took shape in Chamelea.
Here, Kotler and her staff of science-minded instructors work to stimulate kids’ intellectual and personal growth through play and creativity. In small classes—limited to 10 students per teacher—kids delve into such mind-expanding arenas as chemistry—learning the science behind cooking—music, and history. The classes are based often on questions that kids commonly ask, such as “Why are dinosaurs extinct?” or “How does electricity work?”, and then work to provide answers through hands-on activities and experiments.
