Q:

So exactly how long does the season run? Until what date? And this pass can be used any day of the week (except July 4th, I understand) Mon thru Fri, not just weekends?

carolyn s.  asked on  Apr 30, 2013

A:

Sorry for the delay! The Groupon expires 10/12/13. Please reach out to the location of your choice for their exact season dates.

Q:

I have never had to pay sales tax on a groupon before. We were told we needed to pay sales tax when redeeming the groupon. Is this correct? Is the sales tax on the groupon price or the regular price? Tried to redeem at the Boston location on 4/27, but was told we had to go to Newton. Is this groupon only redeemable at Newton? Thanks for your help.

Claire H.  asked on  Apr 29, 2013

A:

Claire, If you purchase a Groupon for a taxable item in Massachusetts you do have to pay sales tax. The tax is only on the amount you have paid. You can pay the tax online or we can do it over the phone. You will not need to come out to Newton. Our office number is 617-965-2695. Pasted below is more information on the sales tax issue. This is information from Groupon's Web Site. "Questions about sales tax How does sales tax generally work with Groupon vouchers? "A customer is not charged sales tax when a merchant’s voucher is acquired from Groupon. Sales tax may be charged and collected by a merchant when the voucher is redeemed, depending on whether the underlying product or service is subject to sales tax and whether or not the merchant has a collection obligation." In 2012 the Massachusetts Department Of Revenue issued Directive 12-4 on the Application of Sales Tax to Sales and Redemption of Qualifying Promotional Vouchers. http://www.mass.gov/dor/businesses/help-and-resources/legal-library/directives/directives-by-decade/2012-directives/dd-12-4.html

Q:

Hi Guys, We purchased two groupons last year for your membership and used one. Unfortunately, my family was not able to come out as planned due to some home issues and we never got to use the second groupon. It retains it's $119 value, but would you please still be able to honor it for this year as a membership? We love getting the kids out on the water... Thank you, Adam

Adam P.  asked on  Apr 27, 2013

A:

Adam, if you have questions about unused Groupons, please call our office at 617-965-2695.

Q:

I know you offer family memberships, which is what I would like to buy. I take it that those are not part of this offer? But additional boats would receive a discount if rented through a member?

Pamela N.  asked on  Apr 26, 2013

A:

Pamela, you can use the Individual Groupon to upgrade to a family pass for an additional $174 plus tax. Please call our office at 617-965-2695 if you are interested in the upgrade!

Q:

with a season pass- can the person rent multiple kayaks? like if they brought a friend? or a tandem kayak?

gabrielle k.  asked on  Apr 26, 2013

A:

The pass holder just gets 1 rental per visit. According to the Season Pass Policies, "An "individual" member can bring guests in the boat they are renting at no charge as long as the boat rented can accommodate the number of guests (for example, an individual kayak member and a guest may rent one double kayak at no extra charge)."

Brette V.  from  Groupon  replied on  Apr 26, 2013

A:

Season pass holder guests who wish to rent a boat of their own receive a 20% discount on their rentals. Limit two additional boats per passholder per visit.

Q:

I am assuming from the above that even if I got a membership through a Groupon last year, I would not be considered a new member for these purposes? thanks, Jeff

Jeff W.  asked on  Apr 26, 2013

A:

Per the Fine Print, this Groupon is only valid for first-time season pass holders. If you had a season pass previously, you would not be eligible as this would not be your first time having a season pass. I hope this helps clarify!
