$69 for Introductory Sailing Class ($150 Value)

During two-hour, semiprivate classes, groups of up to four students follow ASA–certified instructors through the basics of sailing a 25-foot Catalina boat in Charleston Harbor. Sailors learn the fundamentals of rigging, steering, and waterway etiquette, such as right of way and requirements for earning an eye patch.

Charleston Sailing School

An American Sailing Association–certified training facility, Charleston Sailing School is staffed by USCG and ASA–certified instructors who each boast at least five years' experience traversing the deep blue. Offering both sail and powerboat rentals, Charleston Sailing School's fleet allows renters to roam the coastal waters by wind or motor, much like a remote-control kite. Individual courses illuminate sailors on the basics of keelboat sailing, bareboat chartering, and basic coastal cruising and also include classes for more experienced mariners that include advanced coastal cruising and the proper way to evade sirens. More extensive liveaboard programs allow students to experience immersive instruction and learn comprehensive sailing skills while living aboard a keelboat for up to a week and fulfilling various levels of ASA certifications.
