What You'll Get
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs dictates that every child must break away from their family and establish independence, which is why so many tulips long to leave the family bed for their own flower box. Give your perennials a shot at self-actualization with today’s Groupon: for $22, you get a space in the hypertufa planting container class at Charlie Thigpen’s Garden Gallery, located at Pepper Place (a $45 value).
Charlie Thigpen’s Garden Gallery provides the ground greenery, outdoor décor, and creative catalyst to transform a tired turf into backyard bliss. During the Thursday-evening hypertufa class, held every other week from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., horticulturist hopefuls receive all necessary materials and know-how to create their own portable planting receptacle. Constructed from peat moss, perlite, and portland cement, a hypertufa planter is lightweight and porous, making it perfect for plant growth or hiking attire. The hypertufa container's beauty, which resembles stone, increases when left outside to endure the elements, eventually attracting lichens, mosses, and the hard-earned respect of garden gnomes. After completion, containers will require a week of quiet repose in the relaxing recesses of Charlie Thigpen’s garden to cure and set before proud owners can pick them up. All participants in this class also receive a coupon good for 15% off purchases at the Gallery's store, which must be used in one visit.
Prior to opening his shop, owner Charlie Thigpen spent 20 years crafting eye-pleasing natural plantings on the grounds of the Southern Progress Corporation, in addition to contributing to Southern Living magazine.
