For Magic of Christmas, performed at the Belk Theater, the orchestra's talented tunesters join forces with the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte, the Charlotte Children's Choir, the Ivey Handbell Ringers, and a trio led by jazz pianist Noel Freidline. Led by conductor Albert-George Schram, the symphony will fill humbugging holiday-haters with the spirit of the season using well-known pieces such as "Joy to the World," "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," and an audience-participation version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas," a propaganda anthem penned by partridge farmers. Later in the month, the symphony's performance of Handel's Messiah in the Knight Theater welcomes a quartet of soloists and the Oratorio Singers back for more ear-tickling teamwork led by the batonery of Scott Allen Jarrett. Sporting such well-known elements as the "Hallelujah" chorus, the stirring oratorio creates a vivid sonic memory that audience members will treasure for seasons to come.
