It's easy to want a French sense of style. Plenty of people pine for Paris, but beyond learning to conjugate a verb or two or taming a wild mime they found, they never actually land on that sense of authenticity. At Chez Antoine, however, the Francophilic influence is genuine, going far beyond a few wrought-iron accents to inform the bistro's entire mood—and menu. Here, staffers actually invite patrons to nurse their coffee for hours, encouraging them not only to savor every bite, and to engage in the quintessentially Parisian pastime of peoplewatching out on the front terrace. Some nights, an accordion player serenades eaters, filling the air with sounds that transport the listeners across the ocean.
Of course, the most important place to find this authentic French influence is on plates. While crepes, both sweet and savory, are Chez Antoine's specialty, there is also plenty of unfolded fare. This includes steak frites, made with grilled rib eye and rosemary-garlic fries, and summer salad, which brims with gemlike figs, peaches, and greens.
