The bagel, like the circle from which it takes its shape, is a metaphor for life; it literally never ends. Today’s Groupon celebrates that sacred, delicious symbol: for $3, you get $8 worth of anything you like from Chicago Bagel Authority, the Lincoln Park mecca for steamed bagel sandwiches. Located right off the brown line at the Armitage stop, Chicago Bagel Authority is modeled after steamy bagel hub Bagel & Deli at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
If you thought bagel sandwiches only came in mincemeat pie or pickled haggis varieties, Chicago Bagel Authority’s menu of steamed sandwiches will get your mind right. Settle your breakfast hungers with bacon, hardboiled egg, and cheese ($4.90 bagel, $7.40 sub) or a Denver bialy with ham, Muenster, onions, and green peppers ($5.50 bagel, $8 sub). If you’re feeling adventurous, sample La Dolce with spinach spread, provolone, tomato, and onions on rye ($4.50 bagel, $7 sub) or the exciting (if ominously named) After Burner, with meatballs, banana peppers, pizza sauce, and provolone ($5.50, $8.25). To honor the street where your suburban friend always finds a parking spot, try the Ravenswood, with roast beef, smoked cheddar, horseradish, and mayo on onion ($5.50 bagel, $8 sub). For the bagel purist, there is always the butter bagel ($1.60) or the cream cheese ($2.75).
Change the way you think about bagels and the things you can put inside them. While you must use the full value of your Groupon per visit, you can grab up to five of today’s deal and treat five separate coworkers to bagels as you gossip about the other four who aren't there.
Citysearchers listed Chicago Bagel Authority as the Best Bagel in the metropolitan area in 2009 and give it a near-perfect 4.5 stars. Yelpers and Insider Pages users both give the sandwich shop four stars, while Judy's Book reviewers rate it a solid 3.5:
- This neighborhood gem has one of, if not the, best bagel sandwich in the city. The bagels are stuffed with lots of whatever you want and steamed to a soft, melty, goodness. – mad_mrmagoo, Citysearch
- Great for breakfast. – Laura H., Insider Pages
- Their staff is friendly and again, their menu is vast and diverse. Naturally, it can get crowded but it is worth it! – Karen S., Judy's Book
