The last time you ran into a long-dead gangster on the street, you had forgotten to take the non-drowsy Benadryl. Today’s Groupon to Chicago Hauntings Tours gets you all the spirits and undead visitations a sane person could want with an adult ticket for $14 ($28 value) or a child’s ticket for $10 ($20 value, ages 12 and under) to see the company’s signature tour. Today's Groupon is good until September 15, 2010. You can choose to troll the scary back alleys and notorious ghost-ridden spots of Chicago any Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m., or Sunday at 3 p.m.

Wait for the spooky black bus to pick you up at 600 N. Clark (next to the spooky-in-a-different-way Rock N Roll McDonald's) to begin your spine-curdling two-hour tour. Because Chicago Hauntings Ghost Tour prides itself on being able to creep out the most avid paranormal activists, you won’t just drive past Chicago’s most haunted spots with your nose pressed against the glass and your feet against the ceiling. Chicago Hauntings knows that, despite their ability to pass through walls, ghosts have a tendency to be homebodies, so your guide will stop the bus at several of the most actively ghoulish sites. You’ll walk around to properly feel the chill of winter’s dead touch. Chat with the ghost of John Dillinger about Apple tablet rumors before the Biograph Theater, or huddle against the ghastly breath on your neck at Candyman’s Cabrini-Green. Sites change from trip to trip, so even if you’ve already been before, you’re likely to find a new scare.

Ghost tours are a great excuse to snuggle up with your sweetie this Valentine's Day. You'll also form lasting bonds with new friends as you learn about the curse of the Billy Goat and the phantoms of Fort Dearborn. The expert tour guides at Chicago Hauntings have performed extensive research on each of the haunted sites you’ll visit, and their entertaining stories have a way of bringing ghouls out from their hiding places to perform popular dances from the '40s.

Haunted America lists Chicago Hauntings as one of the Top Ten Ghost Tours in the U.S. Time Out Chicago calls the tour one of the top in metropolitan area:

  • Upon boarding the black school bus adorned with fake bullet-hole decals, we worried we’d gotten ourselves into one hell of a tourist gimmick. But a few hours after the Chicago Hauntings Ghost Tour ended, we were looking over our shoulders for the bogeyman. – Lissa Bennett, Time Out Chicago

Yelpers give Chicago Hauntings a solid four stars, while TripAdvisors give it 3.5 owl eyes:

  • These people really know their ghost stories and Chicago history! – Smokey596, TripAdvisor
  • It was a great way for us to see Chicago in a different light. We went to places we wouldn't have gone to or had time to drive around too on our own. – k324, TripAdvisor

Chicago Hauntings Ghost Tour

Chicago Hauntings' founder Ursula Bielski and her crew of paranormal researchers explore supernatural active sites on foot. The rotating itinerary of stops includes the site of the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre, the location of the Fort Dearborn Massacre, and the spot where Resurrection Mary met her fateful end.

Along with her primary routes, Ursula leads specialty tours including daytime trips based on The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson's bestseller about serial killer H. H. Holmes, and strolls down one Chinatown block where every building is allegedly haunted. She also hosts private tours, pub crawls, and kid-friendly excursions during which youngsters hear toned-down tales and learn about ghost-hunting equipment more advanced than their dog Sherlock.

The guides are very knowledgeable. The tour was very enlightening, both from a historical and paranormal perspective. We would recommend this to everyone.

Loved it! Even if the sights themselves aren't too much to look at today, our tour guide l, Clarence, was an incredible storyteller. Had an issue where they communicated the wrong pick up location to us, about a mile away. But they came and picked us up, we got the entire tour as planned, and we were thoroughly entertained.

Great stories, lots of history about Chicago. Great experience! Might be better if the explanation is at the spot instead of in the bus priori of vivising the spot. Then the total time would be shorter.
