Because diving headlong into an expensive career in the motorsports industry is impractical and late-night street racing is stunningly illegal, today's deal takes your Mario Kart skills to the weather-proof, death-proof, debt-proof indoor track. Today's Groupon gets you four arrive-and-drive races and a yearlong license at Chicago Indoor Racing for $50 (a $95 value if used in one visit, $125 value if used over multiple visits), located in Buffalo Grove and Addison. Plus, with your annual license (a $25 value), you'll get a fifth free race voucher emailed to you on your birthday. Instead of speeding through your Groupon with a long day of races, stretch the value out with multiple heart-racing visits, just like the Saw franchise or my dad visiting the doctor.

Your arrive-and-drive races let you make same-day reservations for times that aren't already booked, so you can step on the gas whenever your foot starts itching. On your first visit, you'll need to arrive an hour before your race time to learn the ways of the road and get suited up in your special driver suit, Snell-rated helmet, and neck brace. Slide like slippery lightning into your Bowman race kart, and let your Honda GX200 unrestricted four-cycle engine eat your enemies with up to 5,500 rpm. The open-kart design and inch of space between you and the ground will make 30–35 mph feel like a neck-breaking 70 mph.

Navigate the tracks at either of Chicago Indoor Racing's Buffalo Grove and Addison locations. Each facility has multiple tracks, some with longer straight-aways for gaining speed and some more twisted than an angry goat's intestines. After you've won your race, sit back and watch the action in the free spectator-viewing area, or bring your mom along to cheer on your need for speed and heckle other drivers' moms when they beat you.

Note: Drivers must be 18.

Yelpers give Chicago Indoor Racing four stars, and Citysearchers give it five:

  • All of the employees are very nice and well groomed. They had all the answers to the questions I was asking...I also truely [sic] like the fact that you get race results at the end of each race to show you how you did individually and you can also see how you did compared to the others that were racing with you. – playgrl1183, Citysearch
  • CIR is a great experience! I highly recommend it to everyone!!...We have also been out there to do arrive and drives and it was just as much fun! – mrscuervo, Citysearch

One of the great tragic flaws in the so-called American Dream is that with all our technical advancements, most Americans are still not professional go-kart drivers. A single trip to Chicago Indoor Racing won’t fix this, but a good start might be choosing a racing nickname that fits your current occupation while you pursue your go-kart dreams. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

Professors: Prof, Egghead, The Professor
Accountants: Mad Money, Cash Cab, CBS’s Numb3rs
Firemen: Blaze, Inferno, Nozzle
Nurses: Scrubs, Emergency Vroom, The Blood Pack (team-racing only)
Full-Sized Racecar Driver: Big-Shot, Mister
Thinks-He’s-So-Big-Because-He-Can-Go-Over-35-Mph, Dad’s Favorite
