Stock-car racing is scientifically proven to be an extremely cool reason to drive in circles, trumped only by being in a Soviet spy chase in an ice rink or driving a motorcycle with Burt Reynolds in a sidecar. Take in some cool vibes with today's Groupon: for $95, you get two admissions and two pit passes to a double header on Saturday, June 4 at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet (a $190 value). Children 12 and younger are admitted for free.
The Chicagoland Speedway hosts the NASCAR Nationwide Series' STP 300 and the ARCA Racing Series' Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 150 events on June 4. The NASCAR Nationwide race features the engine-revving of racers Danica Patrick and Trevor Bayne, tearing up the asphalt track. Free parking is available beginning at 8 a.m., and gates open at noon. Seats are in section G, the preferred-seating area, and pit passes get attendants close enough to the cars to lend a wrench to a crewmember in need. The speedway also features 18-degree banked turns, ensuring an exhilarating race that will even impress instructors at a cliff-jumping academy. Following the races, alternative-rock band Puddle of Mudd entertains concert-goers with impassioned vocals, tight rhythms, and a tri-fold board to promote erosion awareness.
Starting at 10 a.m., the kids zone at Champions Park, located next to the grandstands, will play host to the Radio Disney Road Crew. Meanwhile, adults can establish their own kids zone at the tailgate area with games of beanbag and visits to the Miller Lite Pit Stop. Attendants can bring their own coolers, and soft-sided containers measuring 6" x 6" x 12" or smaller enter the park for free.
