A Chat with Chill on Park
1. What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Chill on Park serves up local ice cream, coffee, and pastries with a smile—but that’s not all we do. With a mission of supporting youth and education, we aim to provide jobs for local teens and give back to the community. In just the year and a half we’ve been open, we have supported 30+ local organizations and hired 20+ high school students.
2. What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
It all started with a vision of what the Fields Corner neighborhood needed: a family-friendly, local place where anyone and everyone from the neighborhood can meet and relax. We also wanted our shop to be a place where local teens could work. When the space became available, Alan and I jumped on the opportunity and opened Chill On Park, an ice cream and coffee shop.
3. What do you love most about your job?
There is so much to love about this job! First, I employ awesome teens from the neighborhood. I learn from them daily and feel fortunate that I am able to provide a positive work environment where they can learn important job skills and earn a paycheck. I am also proud of the local products that we sell. Chill on Park is a happy place where people are able to come together and treat themselves to amazingly delicious ice cream, coffee, smoothies and more, all while supporting an independent business.
4. What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a customer?
We often hear about how beautiful our space is and how our business is a positive addition to the neighborhood. The best reactions, however, are the ones we see on children’s’ faces after they try our ice cream. With over 32 flavors, it is wonderful watching people decide which flavors to choose. And then it is great when they come back again and again for more.
