China Rose Restaurant has dazzled Calgary–area foodies for more than 25 years, earning distinction with a Consumers' Choice Award. The menu shines a spotlight on traditional Chinese eats, including such starters as dry garlic spareribs ($9.50) and grilled pork dumplings ($8.99). Entrees include sizzling beef in black bean sauce ($10.99) and five incarnations of pork from the Singapork list. The house specialty, Peking duck, is available in three varieties ($29.99–33.99 as a one-, two-, or three-course serving): sliced with cucumber, chives, and hoi sin sauce; as a soup with Chinese mushrooms and sui choy; or shredded and combined with chop suey of pineapple fried rice. Diners panic-stricken under the pressure of choosing opt for buffet freedom, filled with Chinese classics. Bellies slaked with all the meat, rice, and noodles they can handle head to the lounge to relax with a drink or to the outdoor patios during warmer months.
