Until the invention of ballet in 1951, the interplay of music and motion was limited to jacks-in-the-box and orchestras playing on sinking ships. Today’s Groupon to the Cincinnati Ballet showcases the beautiful melding of dazzling dance and sublime sound: for $20, you get a ticket (a $40 value) to your choice of one performance of either Mozart’s Requiem or a joint performance of The Sammy Project! and In the Upper Room. To redeem your Groupon, bring it to the box office on the day of your selected show and exchange it for your ticket.

Mozart’s Requiem features the Requiem Mass in D Minor, the final composition of famed composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Prominently featured in 1984’s action-adventure blockbuster Amadeus, the 14-movement funeral composition comes ironically alive through the inventive choreography of Adam Hougland and the stunning costume and scenic design of Marion Williams. The Cincinnati Ballet’s movement specialists are accompanied by the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra and the Xavier University Concert Choir.

The Sammy Project!, a world-premiere work, uses the music of singer/dancer/actor/impressionist/drummer/photographer/astronaut/dolphin-trainer Sammy Davis Jr. to create a dancerly mosaic of the man himself. The Sammy Project! is choreographed by Darrell Grand Moultrie, an experienced entertainer in his own right. Appearing on the same bill is In the Upper Room, a Twyla Tharp–choreographed ballet featuring music by Philip Glass.

Since the Cincinnati Ballet was founded in 1963, it has grown into one of the country’s leading midrange ballet companies. With acclaimed productions and active outreach into the community, it has taken center stage as a notable element of Cincinnati’s cultural scene. To ensure that you get the daily recommended dosage of pirouettes, entrechats, and transcendent music, doctors recommend that you buy Groupons for both Cincinnati Ballet productions.

About Cincinnati Ballet

Founded in 1963 at a local YMCA, the Cincinnati Ballet grew into a major regional company by adhering to its mission to express the human experience through dance. Today, it continues upholding that vision by housing resident artists who entertain audiences with dance performances of both classic and original work. Beyond supporting local audiences and their right to clap, the Cincinnati Ballet also seeks to nurture artists through the Otto M. Budig Academy. There, a professional faculty trains aspiring performers at all skill levels. These training opportunities are supplemented by outreach programs such as CincyDance!, which provides free training and dance attire to children.
