Located just blocks from Prospect Park, Citrico has an unassuming appearance that belies its flavorful dishes inspired by recipes from the southern states of Mexico. Walls with soothing shades of green and black-and-white photos of food decorate the small restaurant, whose central feature is an open kitchen dominated by a citrus-y mural over its stovetop. There, the chefs make tortillas from scratch to serve as the anchor for a number of dishes, shaping yellow-corn masa into disks before placing them on the griddle or playing frisbee golf in back alley. These tortillas serve as the anchor for a number of dishes, from battered-fish tacos with chipotle mayonnaise to tostadas topped with octopus, shrimp, and avocado slices to huitlacoche—Mexican truffle—quesadillas. Entrees without tortillas include a chile relleno sliced open to reveal a belly full of shrimp, olives, and cilantro, as well as cemitas that sandwich strips of lime- and cliantro-marinated skirt steak or breaded chicken between their fluffy freshly-baked bread.

“The food was fresh and tasty. Some dishes were a bit on the spicy side, such as the shrimp and fried fish tacos, but they were good. Just make sure you ask when ordering how spicy your selection will be, but otherwise very good service! Also you must order the fresh limeade, you won't be disappointed.”
“The food was delicious and speedy service will Def be back.”
“Tastes like authentic Mexican food you would find in Los Angeles. Only restaurant I've been to in NYC that has ever come close.”
