Located just blocks from Prospect Park, Citrico has an unassuming appearance that belies its flavorful dishes inspired by recipes from the southern states of Mexico. Walls with soothing shades of green and black-and-white photos of food decorate the small restaurant, whose central feature is an open kitchen dominated by a citrus-y mural over its stovetop. There, the chefs make tortillas from scratch to serve as the anchor for a number of dishes, shaping yellow-corn masa into disks before placing them on the griddle or playing frisbee golf in back alley. These tortillas serve as the anchor for a number of dishes, from battered-fish tacos with chipotle mayonnaise to tostadas topped with octopus, shrimp, and avocado slices to huitlacoche—Mexican truffle—quesadillas.
