What You'll Get
Even as the number of professional vocal groups skyrockets thanks to the a cappella craze, there has never been the slightest confusion over which ensemble reigns supreme: Chanticleer. The New Yorker stated the obvious when it declared the Bay Area ensemble "the world's reigning male chorus." Now the 12-member group takes audiences down Mission Road, on a journey through glorious music that originated in Mexican cathedrals and ultimately found its way into Mission churches across New Spain and into what is now Bolivia. Backed by live classical guitar, bassoon and organ, Chanticleer's rendition of psalms, sacred motets and other spiritual Baroque works will fill San Francisco's Mission Dolores Basilica with a sound that can only be described as heavenly.
