- $75 for a summer cocktail-making class and bar bites (a $125 value)
On Monday, August 19, Silver Linings' mixologists will teach guests how to craft two summertime cocktails—featuring Tequila Semental and Bols Genever—which will be complemented by hearty hors d'oeuvres. Guests will have an opportunity during the class for hands-on learning and can practice making their own cocktails. The evening includes a demonstration of Silver Lining's ice-cutting technique.
The event will be at the Institute of Culinary Education from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. All proceeds from general admission will go to City Harvest to help the organization achieve its goal of collecting 46 million pounds of food this year.
A command of the basics paired with free-flowing creativity. At Silver Lining, that could describe the food, the drink menu, or the musical performers handpicked by jazz musician and co-owner Vito Dieterle. While musicians showcase their talents onstage, bartenders display the skills that got Silver Lining named 2012's best cocktail bar by New York Magazine. Using top-shelf spirits and an in-house ice-cutting technique, they craft seasonal and year-round libations including the Rolls Royce, a blend of gin, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, and lemon used to fill the fuel tanks of the world's fanciest cars. Chef Ygael Tresser complements the libations with upscale small plates such as smoked trout pâté and lamb chops.
For more than 30 years, City Harvest has rescued excess food and delivered it to New Yorkers in need. This year, City Harvest will collect 46 million pounds of food from all segments of the food industry, including restaurants, grocers, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers, and farms. The food is then delivered free of charge to roughly 400 community food programs throughout the five boroughs, using a fleet of trucks and bikes, to help feed the more than one million New Yorkers that face hunger each year.
