DJ Ceramix made a name for himself by placing a slab of wet clay atop his turntable and spinning it into a beautiful vase by the end of his set. Impress the audience members of your life with today's Groupon: for $70, you get an eight-week pottery class (up to a $140 value) from the City of Bartlett Parks and Recreation Department, held at Singleton Community Center in Bartlett.
Instructor Susie Hite guides clay creators ages 12 and older in the ways of molded masterpieces with an eight-week introduction-to-pottery course. Students can get elbow-deep in relaxing mud manipulation, spinning unshaped lumps into beautiful pots for housing plants, attractive vases for showing off flowers, or opaque fishbowls for hiding homely pet fish. The two-hour sessions cover the basics of pottery technique with assigned projects as well as time to explore individual ideas. The Tuesday night course, held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will run from May 3 to June 21, and the Wednesday morning course, held from 10 a.m. to noon, will run from May 4 to June 22. This deal does not include the requisite tools or clay, which cost an additional $30.
