Known as the "Black Moses," Harriet Tubman led hundreds of slaves to freedom via the famed Underground Railroad and became a hero of American history. Now Tubman's story is re-imagined for the stage in A Change Gon' Come at Arts Barn. This multimedia production, featuring music, dance and video imagery, starts off in the present day with a young African-American TV news reporter named Helen, who's oblivious to her own ancestral roots. Assigned to produce a tribute to Tubman in honor of African-American Heritage Month, she drifts off to sleep -- and awakens as a slave on a plantation during the mid-1800s. Living through Tubman's times, Helen discovers the emotional struggle of those who came before her and the true strength of this extraordinary woman in the face of seemingly insurmountable circumstances.
This show is recommended for ages 12 and up.
