With today's side deal, $50 gets you and a friend entry into the Philadelphia-based CitySolve Urban Race adventure on Saturday, April 17, beginning at high noon in front of the Triumph Brewery, a $100 value. On race day, teams of two will walk, skip, or run (highly recommended) through the unknown nooks of the city, gathering and solving clues that will lead one lucky team to a $300 prize. The top three teams with the fastest legs and sharpest puzzle-solving skills will also win free entry to the Championship Race in New Orleans on October 30 to compete for the $5,000 grand prize. Best uniforms, top family, top senior, and best tweet will also win a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant or retail store.
The race will take you throughout the city of Brotherly Love to top-secret spots to be discovered on race day. Check in between 11:00 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. The competition begins at noon and usually takes about three to five hours to complete. Along the way, teams will solve clues, answer questions, and complete challenges such as building a house of cards, bowling a strike, and finishing the race without letting the spirited competition come between you and your friend, significant other, or sibling.
Having once gone by the moniker High Trek Adventure, CitySolve Urban Race has received enthusiastic reviews across the nation. The Chicago Children's Fitness Examiner sanctions the adventure, saying:
- In most running races, brawns are more critical than brains. However, in the High Trek Adventure race, you have to have both to top the rest. – Kristin Looney
Though there aren't web reviews for the Philly race in particular, Yelpers across California have given High Trek high marks. Five Yelpers give the race creators an average of 4.5 stars on the Walnut Creek page and one lone Yelper yelps a five-star review in San Diego. Here's what racers say:
- I participated in the Seattle race and had an absolute blast! I live in Seattle and the challenge brought me to areas within the city that I've never even heard of before… – Matthew F., Walnut Creek location
- We had a blast! I recommend that you try it once if you're a big fan of TAR [The Amazing Race]. – Paula N., San Diego location
