Melissa Ferrick heads to City Winery Chicago to share her 12th original album, which is filled with simple, eloquent acoustic tracks that are very close to the singer-songwriter’s heart. Her self-titled new release is so personal, in fact, that she wrote the tracks, recorded them in her own home and released them on her own relaunched label. Ferrick may not be a household name, but she has a long and impressive career as a musician. In the mid-‘90s, she helped represent a new wave of alt-rock females – including artists like Liz Phair, PJ Harvey and college-mate Paula Cole – who sang about womanhood with sharp, unchecked honesty. The multi-instrumentalist has shared the stage with the likes of Morrissey, Bob Dylan, Paul Westerberg and Weezer. Catch this alt-country star when she plays with her special guest, award-winning vocalist Edie Carey.
