Known for his expert fingerpicking, soulful voice and insightful lyrics, Chris Smither has been performing his signature blend of folk and blues for 50 years. Drawing on the guitar styles of Lightnin’ Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt, Smither has crafted a sound all his own while singing about “the big things – life, love, loss – in a penetrating and poetic yet unpretentious way” (Acoustic Guitar magazine). His songs have been covered by such luminaries as Tim O’Brien, Bonnie Raitt, Josh Ritter, Emmylou Harris, Loudon Wainwright III and more. His latest release, Still On the Levee, features fresh takes on 24 songs spanning Smither’s career. John Sieger opens this show at City Winery Chicago.
