What You'll Get
If there aren't enough iPods, magazines, or venom-filled reality shows to make you enjoy working out, perhaps a little humanized external motivation will do the trick. Today's Groupon gets new clients a 20-minute personal-training session at CityWide SuperSlow for $20, a $57 value. You can deadlift up to four Groupons, each one good for one session. Through a high-intensity, super-slow lifting routine, you'll push your muscles to the limit while increasing your metabolism and strength.
Centrally located at 1901 N. Clybourn, CityWide will whip your bod into shape with a challenging yet brief workout that's so intense you only need to do it once a week. Even the fittest of CityWide's trainers don't allow themselves to do this workout more than twice a week. By spending 10 seconds to lift and 10 seconds to lower each weight, you prevent your body from building momentum, working each muscle to its full capacity.
To keep you in perfect form, each of CityWide SuperSlow's certified trainers will watch you with the sharp eyes of predatory birds and will use their own human eyes to convey soulful motivation while their extra rabbit eye keeps track of the time. You will never be left unattended, and your trainers will meticulously chart your progress.
You'll leave CityWide SuperSlow trembling with muscles the consistency of pudding, but after just a few sessions, you'll feel stronger. The energy boost received from a fruitful workout can help increase productivity at work, and with all the time saved on everyday cardio routines, you'll finally have time to edit the independent film you shot in the summer of 2002.
Workouts are by appointment only. Call ahead to schedule.
GQ, Elle, and Vogue have featured the benefits of the SuperSlow workout in different markets. Locally, Centerstage Chicago, Chicago Social, the Chicago Tribune, and Time Out Chicago have featured CityWide SuperSlow:
- In addition to being a quick, intense workout that you only do once or twice a week, no other training or cardio is needed. – Maya Henderson, Centerstage Chicago
- After four weeks of training, there is a visible difference in the shape of our bum (a bit more perky), core muscles are flat and the beginning of a six-pack is visible. But mostly we just feel better—we have more energy and just feel tighter and stronger. – Amalie Drury, Korey Karnes, Jaydine Sayer, and Kate Templin, Chicago Social
- The routine may sound like a blip on the fitness-fad radar, but it's been around for more than 20 years and has scientific support. – Liz Plosser, Time Out Chicago

About Citywide Superslow
It’s fitting that Citywide Superslow’s strength training classes, which were featured on WGN9 Morning News, take place in a former furniture factory—where carpenters once shaped wood into sturdy tables and chairs, certified trainers now shape lax forms into chiseled bodies. Each workout uses specialized MED-X equipment, and emphasizes slow, frictionless movement and heavy weights to push muscles to their limit. Athletes take typically 10 seconds to lift the weight and 10 seconds to lower it, working muscles to the point of fatigue but keeping them from giving letters of resignation. The experienced staff is proof of the results that can be achieved from the regimen, keep in strong physical shape in the minimal amount of time. Trainers remain on hand to offer recommendations on technique, and offer advice on diet plans that help facilitate recovery and digestive health.
