Life imitates art, which is why so many people look like the sculptures in wax museums. Create your own imitation-worthy masterpiece with today’s Groupon: for $25, you get a three-hour introductory ceramics class at Clay Art Center in Port Chester (a $50 value).
Clay Art Center, a non-profit ceramics organization, cultivates clay visions into physical works of art with a host of classes led by a faculty of experienced teachers and established artists. Fledgling potters can get their hands muddy with a three-hour introductory Check it Out! class, capped at 10–15 people to allow each student ample space and attention. Express creative instincts by sculpting the beginnings of a self-bust, or assembling a post-modern, fork-shaped bowl. All pieces will be fired in the kiln before being picked up by their makers and brought home for proud display on the mantle or given a seat at the kitchen table.
Students will also receive a tour of the Clay Art Center’s extensive facility and gift shop. Rookie clay crafters can peruse the ceramics gallery, which features the work of local and nationally recognized artists, for project inspiration or ideas for the artistic arrangement action figure collections. Check it Out! classes are available on Saturdays, Sundays, and certain weeknights, although alternate flexible times in the evenings and on the weekends can be requested.
