Clay Hill Stables - 2, Bladensburg: One or Four Beginner Riding Lessons, or One Intermediate/Advanced Riding Lesson at Clay Hill Stables (Up to 51% Off)

For centuries, horseshoes have been associated with good fortune, which is why homeowners hang them over doorways and brides lob them at groups of their single friends. Get hitched with this Groupon.

Choose from Three Options

  • $30 for a 60-minute beginner horseback-riding lesson (a $60 value)
  • $37 for a 60-minute intermediate/advanced horseback-riding lesson (a $75 value)
  • $95 for a package of four 60-minute beginner horseback-riding lessons (a $190 value)

Riders must wear their own hard-soled shoes with a heel, riding pants or jeans, and chaps or half chaps; the school loans helmets for free. Beginner children's classes (ages 6+) start at 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and family lessons (adult with child aged 6+) take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays. In the fall, beginner classes are also offered on Sundays. Intermediate/advanced lessons are by appointment only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Clay Hill Stables

Since founding Clay Hill Stables in 1964, British Horse Society–certified instructor Emmie Prettyman has passed her vast equine expertise on to legions of horses and their riders through a variety of services. Emmie captains a team of instructors certified to teach the English style of riding as well as administer first aid and CPR, ensuring safe and sound lessons for students as young as 6. Beginner classes work to establish fundamentals both on and off the saddle, including riding positions and basic grooming and tacking. Once riders have demonstrated proficiency at the paces of walk, trot, and canter, they may be eligible for the jumping work in the intermediate/advanced class, where they build on skills with more intricate flatwork and jumping exercises, as well as have the opportunity for trail rides and horse shows.
