Without hands, cobras are forced to express themselves through interpretive belly dances and Fauvist face paintings. Flaunt your artistic touches with today's Groupon: for $12, you get a one-hour Clay Tasters class (a $25 value) at Clay Space, on Polk Street. Choose from the following classes:

  • One-hour Parent and Child class (children ages 3 to 6).
  • One-hour Kids in Clay class (ages 7 to 12).
  • One-hour Pottery Wheeling class (ages 13 and up).

With three different classes, the experienced staff at Clay Space guides thumbs and fingertips as they scrape over cracks and smooth over crevices with massaging presses. The introduction of hands to clay presents a unique bonding experience for family members and friends. Instructors in the Parent and Child class fill fledgling fingers and parental paws with pulpy molds in a ceremonious texture initiation designed for beginning artists. The Kids in Clay class builds upon basic techniques and allows youngsters to fly solo from moms and dads as they express their interest in the art form through complex smile algorithms. Projects in both of these classes, if desired, may be purchased for an additional fee that is not included in the Groupon. Experienced sculptors sit beside a potter's wheel in the Pottery Wheeling class and practice the centuries-old method of constructing pots and disc-jockeying ceramic beats by manipulating materials on a spinning plate. All three classes last an hour, and although the schedule differs for each one, additional times are available with participant flexibility.

The talented, friendly pottery professionals at Clay Space churn out treasures seven days a week in well-lit, broad, and spacious studios. Each class fits up to eight students, crafting an environment rich in personal interaction, thorough instruction, and four-on-four mud curling. As an inspirational and learning resource, resident studio artists display their artwork throughout the studio.
