Before photography, the only way people could preserve their most treasured memories was by forcing everyone around them to stand completely still for days at a time. Today's Groupon presents a less-complicated option: you get a class from Click Workshops. Depending on your experience and interests, choose from the following class options:
- $95 for any Photoshop class (a $195 value)
- $120 for an introduction to digital photography class (a $245 value)
- $180 for an advanced digital photography class (a $360 value)
Led by the aesthetically talented duo of Lori Gordon, the eye behind Shooting Star Photography, and Jody Williams, the index finger behind Jody Lynn Photography, each Click class covers a wide range of techniques, tricks, and design elements through the lens of each student's respective camera.
Photoshop The beginners' 2.5-hour Photoshop class covers learning the Photoshop toolbar and interface, Adobe Camera RAW (ACR), and retouching to remove unsightly ear-canal monsters from your photos. The 2.5-hour Elements for Photographers class compares Elements 9 to Photoshop CS5 and works through best practices for cropping, color pop, and working with layers. In both classes, students will receive a batch of photos to edit.
Photography The introduction to digital photography class covers basic technical aspects, such as proper exposure, metering, and lighting, and also provides advice about posing subjects and where to print photos. A catered lunch and Q&A session is included. After class, you'll leave with photography literature and access to Jody and Lori's brains for any future photographic questions. The advanced digital photography class is designed for students with a firm foundation and high level of familiarity with their camera. Techniques covered include advanced composition and lighting techniques, RAW images, outputting for the web, and vendor recommendations. Students depart with a gray card and a solution to successfully shooting in pitch black without using a flash. These five-hour classes, held at various locations (sometimes outdoors), are scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year.
For the Photoshop classes, students will need to submit one picture to the instructor prior to class and bring their personal laptop computers with either Photoshop CS2, CS3, CS4, or CS5 or Elements 8 or 9. For the digital photography classes, students must bring their own digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) with a charged battery, memory card, and corresponding manual.
