Global CO2 emissions reached 6.5 billion tons in 2000, causing detrimental effects to human health as well as the environment. Today's students will reap the rewards or face the consequences of short-term choices in planetary stewardship, but few options exist that empower them to take part in shaping Earth's ecological future. Climate Cycle engages students in the drive to environmental sustainability via classroom education and by installing solar energy systems in Chicago public schools, fostering increases in both energy independence and environmental consciousness.
During its annual Ride to Recharge event, Climate Cycle sends thousands of cyclists gliding down the lakefront, raising money for schools to go green with each revolution of their pedals. In the past two years, Climate Cycle has generated $175,000 through the rides, helping it provide 11 schools with solar-powered energy systems and fund 15 Earth-friendly school projects. Many students who participate in the ride to help their schools come from low-income neighborhoods and cannot afford their own helmets. If Climate Cycle can provide safer riding options, more students will have the opportunity to contribute, raising more money for green schools and more awareness among budding decision-makers. By providing these riders with helmets, Climate Cycle not only encourages participation in the Ride to Recharge, it also enables continued safe riding in the kids' future two-wheeled journeys.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help Climate Cycle equip students with bicycle helmets. If G-Team members raise $1,000, 50 Chicago-area students will receive their own bicycle helmet, enabling safe riding and increasing support for green schools. Each additional $20 raised will fund a helmet for one student. By supporting this campaign, G-Team members will also receive $10 off admission to the Ride to Recharge on May 22 (normal registration fees are $30 for adults, $20 for students, $15 for kids 7–12, and free for kids 6 and under; check the Ride to Recharge registration page for information about fundraising minimums).
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
