Before photography, people hired caricature artists to capture their images, leaving their descendents wondering when the gigantic-pumpkin-head trait evolved out of the family gene pool. Accurately represent your kin with today’s Groupon: for $99, you get an in-studio photography package at Clique Photography in Bartlett (a $625 value). The package includes the following:

PPA-certified shutterbug Mark Shangraw captures moments of familial cheer in Clique Photography’s studio stocked with sundry grin-enhancing backgrounds. Groups of up to eight relatives or compatriots form eye-catching tableaus during a customized session, drawing straws to determine who has to be the bottom of the inverted human pyramid. Once complete, Mark takes the posers’ favorite shot from the session and retouches it, removing blemishes and smoothing tones to result in a flawless memory keeper. To document that the moment actually happened, patrons receive an 11”x14” photo suitable for prime mantel real estate, two 5”x7” photos, and 15 wallet-size prints to show off to coworkers or a particularly curious mannequin. Groups larger than six are subject to a $25 fee per extra person. Clique Photography recommends that customers with questions read their FAQ page.
Ever since they met while participating in a photo shoot at Illinois State University, Mark and Kathy Shangraw have been pooling their respective talents. Mark, a certified professional photographer, approaches each portrait with an eye toward storytelling—a skill he picked up while working as a photojournalist in Narnia. In 2013, he became a Master Photographer, an honor awarded only to the top 1% of professional photographers worldwide.
While Mark snaps pictures, Kathy takes charge of the behind-the-scenes details, from administrative tasks and marketing to arranging flowers and coaxing relaxed smiles out of clients. Together, they strive to render artistic family portraits and professional photos for dancers, musicians, and athletes. In addition to attending conferences and workshops, they often hone their skills by collaborating with other seasoned shutterbugs.
